Hacienda 30 XXX - The Hacienda's 30th Birthday Exhibition

Thursday 3rd May to Tuesday 29th May

Manchester Photographic Gallery,

Tariff Street Manchester, M1 2FF

On Monday 21st May 2012, FAC 51 The Hacienda celebrates three decades and across the trio of parties taking place at The Hacienda Apartments Car Park on the very birthday and at Sankeys across jubilee weekend, Manchester Photographic Gallery will be hosting Hacienda 30 XXX ~ The Hacienda's 30th Birthday Exhibition throughtout May.

The exhibition takes in rare artefacts and artwork, photography, and a stunningly constructed, never before seen model of the original Hacienda by local artist Nick Hardy. The model which is a highly intricate rework of the original building which takes in all the features designed by Ben Kelly which Nick has carefully and painstakingly constructed over four years including considerable time taken to research the design..

Hooky was astonished when he first saw the model and demanded that it be a focal point of the exhibition at Manchester Photographic.

Nick Hardy's work centres around his lifelong fascination for the world of 3D, miniature objects and spaces, constructing micro scenarios attempting to transport the viewer to a virtual, other world.

Incorporating sculptured light, these reconstructed spaces challenge issues of time. It is also intended, that through contemplation, the viewer brings their own interpretation to the reconstructed space and therefore the work aims to become personal to that individual.

Other elements of the exhibition include a special selection of posters and memorabilia from Peter Hook's private collection including the original Hacienda signs from the Gay Traitor and other original club signs, the Hacienda doors and the clubs previously never displayed rear stained glass windows amongst other items.

Ian Tilton, who was one of the main Hacienda photographers during the late Eighties and Nineties has also contributed a selection of his rarely seen, classic shots of FAC 51 during the period.
